In May 2019 wonderful costume designer Firefly Path and I traveled to France and explored the castles of the Loire Valley.
Every chateau was straight out of a fairy tale. I felt a bit odd wearing regular clothing. These type of places demand dramatic gowns! Unfortunately traveling with multiple princess gowns can be a bit of a hassle, so I decided to design the next best thing - pieces of fantasy jewelry!
While in Paris, we were very lucky to go to the Musée de Cluny to view the unbelievable unicorn tapestries.
With the tapestries and chateaus rattling around in my head, I set off to design the Legend Collection.
Here are some of the images that helped me along with my inspiration.
Frozen lake near the hotel where I stayed - Nellim Wilderness Lodge
In January of this year I was super lucky to be able to head over to Helsinki. All of those posts on Facebook about the Aurora glass igloo hotel had been circulating at roughly the same time, so I was determined to head up to Finnish Lapland to catch the lights and bond with some huskies and reindeer. It was amazing.
Finland in January is absolutely breathtaking, so it didn't take me long to whip out my sketch book. One thing that really struck me was how the snow glittered at night - it looked like thousands of tiny diamonds. The other was the massive icicles (I've always had an affinity for them, I'd just never seen them so big). With the help of the beautiful scenery my winter wonderland Lapland Lights collection was born. Rhodium plated silver to keep the pieces wintery white and sparkly diamonds to mimic the snow.
Here's a little mood board I put together for the collection -
